Biography

Karel Dobry is a Czech film, television and stage actor. He has been critically acclaimed for his potrayals of deep characters with multi-faceted personalities. He is considered to be among the top actors in the Czech Republic.

Karel was born in 1969 in Karlovy Vary in West Bohemia. He was raised in Prague and spent part of his childhood in Syria. He speaks English, Czech, Russian and German.

While in his second year at the The Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, he already had been signed for three permanent theater engagements.

Karel is a member of the prestigious Czech National Theater, playing leading roles. He also consistently works with two other top Czech alternative theater groups.

In 2014 he won the Alfred Radok award for Best Actor, the Theater News Award for Best Actor,  and also garnered a nomination for a Czech Thalie as Best Actor.

He has embodied more than 70 roles in film and television.

His recent film credits include Child 44 and Tannbach. His role in the Canal plus coproduction of Borgia, grew into an intriguing key character throughout the seasons as well as his complex villians in the series Missing and Transporter. Karel is also known for his roles in the Dune 2000 miniseries, A Knights Tale and Mission Impossible.

He is an avid horseman who enjoys driving fast. He is 191 cm.

He is currently shooting a supporting role in Emperor, directed by Lee Tamahori, and starring Adrian Brody.
